An Open Letter to Judaism from an Interfaith Family
Liz Polay-Wettengel

Judaism has failed you, by being characteristically ‘stiff-necked’ and stubborn. We were described that way back then, in the desert, and in many ways, we are that way still. But now we are standing in the midst of a vast expanse of Jews who have not found a way in, might want to affiliate, and ask only that respect for different choices be given. Your piece is a stinging reminder that there are people with feelings behind the often quoted facts and figures of Jews that have ‘fallen away’. Have people really fallen away? It’s too painful for the Jewish establishment to admit that you and they have been pushed away. I hope your piece spurs conversations and change that needs to happen.
