In the realm of internet browsers, Chrome reigns supreme as the global leader, commanding a staggering 63.6 percent usage among internet users worldwide, according to data from StatCounter. In the same period (July to August 2023), Safari secured second place with just under 20 percent, while Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Samsung browsers trailed significantly behind, with usage percentages ranging from 5.4 to 2.3 percent.

Advancements in web technologies have paved the way for the creation of remarkable Google Chrome Extensions! For seasoned Chrome users, myself included, it’s evident that these extensions have the potential to enhance productivity, boost focus, save time, and promote better organization within the browser.

I’ve compiled a list of my favorite extensions that contribute to my productivity and streamline tasks for easier execution.

  1. Google Keep
Enjoy capturing notes, saving images, quotes, or articles for later? The Google Keep Chrome Extension simplifies the process, allowing you to effortlessly save essential items. Enhance organization by adding reminders, sharing with colleagues, labeling, and conveniently storing it on Google Drive. Plus, the versatility of Google Keep extends to IOS and Android phones, with the option to access all your files through the mobile app.
  2. Checker Plus for Gmail
For those well-versed in Gmail, this extension is a must-try. It enables desktop notifications, allowing you to read, listen, or delete emails without opening Gmail or Inbox. Additionally, it facilitates easy management of multiple accounts.
  3. LastPass
LastPass, a highly acclaimed password manager, securely stores your passwords and provides protected access from any computer or mobile device. It’s both highly secure and incredibly user-friendly.
  4. Simple = Select + Search
If you’re weary of the tedious process of copying and searching for meanings, related articles, or other information, this extension is the perfect solution for you. It’s incredibly straightforward — just select a text on the web, right-click, and it will promptly initiate a search on your preferred search engines.
  5. Clockify Time Tracker
Enhance your tasks and time management by incorporating this extension into your routine. Monitor the time dedicated to various projects effortlessly, as the extension seamlessly integrates with over a hundred web apps. Find a convenient Clockify button within your favorite applications such as Trello, JIRA, Basecamp, Gitlab, Github, Asana, Todoist, Gmail, Calendar, and Google Docs, enabling you to track your time easily.
  6. Google Dictionary
Instantly access word definitions directly from the texts and articles you’re reading online, eliminating the need to open a new tab or resort to copying/pasting the term into a search box.
  7. Momentum
Transform your new tab page into a personalized space that provides a moment of tranquility and motivates increased productivity. Draw inspiration from a daily photo and quote, establish a daily focus, and crucially, keep track of your to-dos.
  8. Screencastify
Screencastify is an uncomplicated Chrome video screen capture software that allows you to record all activities within a tab, complete with audio. Edit your recording effortlessly and share it within seconds.
  9. Taco
Being a team lead, I understand the challenges of juggling various communication channels, task management tools, and to-do lists scattered across emails. Taco offers an excellent solution by consolidating all your activities onto a single page. View tasks from over 40 different services directly on Chrome’s new tab page, including Asana, Basecamp, GitHub, Gmail, OmniFocus, Trello, Zendesk, and many others.
  10. The Great Suspender
If, like me, you consistently have numerous browser tabs open, often as reminders for pending tasks, The Great Suspender can be a game-changer. This extension automatically unloads tabs, preserving the web icon and text title, and restoring a tab is as easy as clicking anywhere on the page.
  11. Grammarly
While many of you may already be acquainted with this tool, it remains indispensable in any productivity discussion. This free tool not only verifies spelling and grammar but also assists in writing with clarity and confidence on platforms like Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Tumblr, and almost anywhere else on the web. Exciting news for Google Drive users — Grammarly will soon be accessible for Google Docs, Sheets, Presentations, and Forms.
  12. OneTab
If the idea of closing all your tabs and only retaining titles doesn’t appeal to you, and you prefer an alternative to the Great Suspender, this extension is a must-have. With this tool, all your tabs are neatly organized in OneTab, providing a clear list and saving up to 95% of memory by reducing the number of open tabs in Google Chrome. Simply click the OneTab icon when you have too many tabs, convert them into a list, and restore them individually or all at once when needed. This efficient process ensures a significant reduction in memory usage and minimizes tab clutter.
  13. Todoist
Todoist serves as a project management tool that allows you to craft meticulously organized and visually appealing to-do lists accessible across all your devices. The Chrome extension offers the convenience of viewing your to-do list or your team’s shared lists and adding tasks without the need to open a separate tab, app, or device. Key features include highly organized and visually appealing to-do lists, seamless integration across devices, and collaborative features for efficient team task management.

A favorite quote of mine comes from Abraham Lincoln: “If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I would spend the first four hours sharpening the axe.” Break free from wasted hours by enhancing your productivity with the free tools offered by Chrome.
