I remember the “disastrous man made global cooling” in the 70’s and 80’s.

Okay, so the key difference here is that the “global cooling” theory never had a lot of support in the scientific community. It was in fact an obscure theory, which even supporting papers had lots of caveats about and was mostly spread in the press and popularised in public opinion rather than scientific opinion, whereas global warming was a more widely accepted theory even back then and has all but compete scientific consensus now.

So, that’s kinda comparing apples and oranges..
