The simple guide to deploy Laravel 5 application on shared hosting

Dear Pete

Thanks for this great post — Isn’t Laravel just amazing!

I was wondering: Have you tried using symlinks. I haven’t worked on a shared environment in a while, but when I did, I used symlinks for this as it required a lot less config on the Application side?

Something like:

rm /Users/petehouston/www/
ln -s /Users/petehouston/project/public /Users/petehouston/www

That way you can leave everything as is in the laravel setup / project folder and it “aliases” as per the needs of the webhost. I think you need to have some settings in the webserver settings (perhaps .htaccess) to “Allow Follow Redirect” but it’s usually on for www folders.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
