For one thing, our outstanding beaches and surfing conditions make this a world-class destination for people who really want to have a great time on the water. In addition to finding lots to do in and around the ocean communities like Irvine and Laguna Beach offer loads of opportunity for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Of course, to many people places like Irvine are about much more than surfing or great California cuisine; these are technology hotspots home to some of the most dynamic players in the tech industry. Companies like these have helped shape the character of Orange County in a very fundamental way.

Even if you do not recognize all of these companies by name, you would certainly be familiar with the products they help produce. Qualcomm, for instance, is responsible for some of the essential components that make smart phones function so well. Western Digital manufactures the delicate hard drives that are found in many different products, including network drives and home entertainment systems.

Needless to say, the campus of the University of California at Irvine is another major part of the local tech scene. Tomorrow’s engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs are getting their start at UC Irvine; before long, they may be taking their place at the head of some of these important multinational corporations.
