I was in Walmart the other evening buying groceries when I noticed a man next to me. He stood there staring at the zucchini with a frown that looked permanently frozen to his face. He wasn’t an old man, but his body was nearly as crooked as his frown. His shoulders slumped, his back curved and his head hung low. I started to look around at the other faces in the store, then I began to notice their body language. A few of them looked genuinely happy while others looked tired but a good majority looked like zombies… just going through the motions. It got me thinking about myself and the world as a whole.

If you stop and look around at humans you will notice that many are living in a state of suffering. This suffering ranges from those that are fighting for the basic needs of life — Clean water, food, shelter and down the more subtle first world problems — Bills, Debt, Job-related stress, career path decisions, social issues and on and on. It is fair to say that everyone you know is dealing with some sort of stress in their life.

It would appear that stress has created a world full of beaten down humans that aren’t living but rather surviving. A world of folks trying to stay afloat and get through the day just do fall asleep and wake up and do it all over again. I know I’ve felt this way plenty of times in my own life, but the truth is we weren’t meant to live this way. We were created for more.

There are a million articles you can read on “hacks” and “tips” to “improve” your life but after reading most of these articles myself I can tell you the answer is actually much more simple. All of the hacks and tips are dealing with surface issues but to really make sense of this we have to get to the root.

Have you ever sat and thought about the beauty and intelligence that is contained inside of a seed? Yes, like a single tomato seed. That single seed already contains the tomato plant and the tomatoes and that tomato contains more seeds. All of this is built into it’s very being. It does not struggle to grow faster or get to a particular place any sooner. You can put it in the right soil, tend to it, even fertilizer it but it will only grow as quickly as it is meant to and pulling on it may damage it or even destroy it. This truth is the same as ours. We must have patience and patience means faith and faith means surrender. We must surrender to the idea that everything is unfolding in its own Divine way in its own Divine timeline. To struggle against that is to struggle against the entire universe and God. It will only create suffering. We cannot force the universe to work for us but we can work with it.

Deep down in our beings, we know this as truth. Plants, animals and all of the entire universe understands this truth, but our complex brains have created what I like to call as the “learned self” aka the ego. This self is the one that you’ve been creating since you were just a little kid. It is the self that was formed out of circumstances and conditions. I want you to picture that there are two rocks — The creek rock was tossed and chipped as the rapids moved carried it downstream while the other rock was on the ocean shore, slowly being smoothed by the rhythmic waves. No matter the circumstances or conditions both are still rocks. We must remember this truth and not let our unique paths create separation or bitterness. We must remember our truths.

The best way to reconnect with our true selves is though meditation and silence. It isn’t easy to untrain yourself of all of these learned personality traits but if you quiet your mind often enough you will begin to operate from this place. Quit focusing on all that is wrong with the world and start looking at all that is right. When you chose to sit in the presence of love and joy more than you do with fear, worry and the unconscious programming you will begin to find that these higher frequencies will integrate themselves into your life in a moment by moment way.

It is only through surrender that we can truly reconnect with our true potential and infinite self. When we live life in this flow state we can become an instrument of clarity and creativity that is unhindered by the learned self. We must get out of our own way and get back to just simply being like the way a kid plays in a mud puddle. Every single one of us has a brilliant light encoded in our very being. We were created with the purpose to shine in our own unique and beautiful light. You are more than fear and worry. No problem in your life is permanent only your soul is permanent. Go out and shine.
