Review: This may just end up being my new go to gift for everyone I know and love. It’s so inspiring! Although I’m not new to zero waste books or the concept of simple living, I found this read to be a lovely refresher and motivator. I can finally stop pinning, googling and instagram saving all of the random tid bits of information I find and instead use this as my new reference book. Many of the solutions, recipes and projects are new to me and I’m very excited to try them out! If the stunning photographs don’t motivate you to consume less plastic and opt instead for a healthier, cleaner more satisfying lifestyle, than I honestly don’t think anything ever will! So much goodness in these pages.

Review: I love this book because it provides practical and easy to understand ways to improve our personal health and habits, while helping the planet at the same time. The clear and common sense narration helps the reader learn new ways to replace the everyday, taken-for granted habits we all have and the products we all use. Her suggestions are in many ways reminiscent of the simpler times of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, before the age of mass-production, processed foods, and engineered chemical products. The beautiful photographs, well-organized chapters, easy-to-follow ideas, and thoughtful encourgaement make this book both clarifying and gratifying to readers who want to start to improve the quality of their lives and the future of the environment. Each of us can begin to make a difference.

Title: Of more value to newbies than the experienced.

Review: Probably best for those who live in big cities and have a lot of money to spend on specialized goods. Overall, you may end up throwing away more “sustainable” items that do not last long compared with being very careful to get the most use possible from the plastic things you buy. Sustainable? Maybe physically because of biodegradability, but my finances would be hard pressed to sustain the impact of all of these eco products. And no stores in my non-metropolitan area will allow me to deduct the tare weight of fabric bags or other containers. Don’t get me started on the availability and price of the exotic ingredients of her recipes for various cleaners, powders, balms, oils, tinctures, etc. Many of the basic food recipes are reasonable, but the rest are too demanding, time & effort consuming, and pricey to bother with. I will continue to do my part to refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle, all the while realizing that the vast majority of non sustainable crimes against the planet are still being committed by major corporations in order to increase profits. My attentions and efforts are better off focused on adding my voice and dollars to groups that are working to change and enforce laws against such atrocities.

Review: Simply Living Well is an incredible wealth of information… perfect for the newbie, but also for those of us that have been living this lifestyle for years. Lots of fresh ideas in addition to the good old standard eco friendly ideas people once just considered ‘frugal.’ I particularly like the ideas for uses of what are usually considered food scraps. The icing on the cake is the lovely layout and design. I’ll be making a place for it in my kitchen with my cookbooks so that’s it’s easy to reference.
