Note before: this is messy and badly written.

I had an entire essay written here, I got distracted and clicked show responses on someone elses post, I lost my essay, I’m now peeved and over this, but I put in the effort before and I will not be beaten like this, so bullet points (sort-of) it is.

Things I noticed about discord:

  • What a great Skype replacement
  • Wow, the UI is almost identical to Slack’s
  • The way is I use Slack and Discord are totally different
  • It’s really nice that Discord doesn’t have that stupid-ass paid thing popping up all the time like Slack does

Then as time went on:

  • Discord has the best patch notes… after Sims 3
  • Discord’s developers seem to be putting in a lot of effort to improve their service and their patches are good.
  • I don’t use discord particularly much for 1 on 1 communication
  • Oh damn, Steam just updated their social communication options and it’s strikingly similar to Discord. I guess they intend to compete, fair enough.

Now at this point, I had begun to see the stuff about Steam’s broken curation pop up more and more frequently, and I began to be conscious of it as well.

Then, you guys release your store.

Well damn, look who’s entrepreneurial now, that’s a smart move, you hit Steam right where it hurts. But… Steam is so big, will they even feel it?

I, and most others who use discord, have our entire library, achievement, inventory’s and other such on steam. Moving do a different platform is a pain in the arse, especially when they don’t have compatible “join friendo in game” buttons.

Conclusion-esque thing
That’s a damn bold move, and a really intelligent one too, but none of my friends use the Discord store platform and because of that neither will I (for now, we’ll see how things progress), and because I’m lazy. But you know that, you’re software developers so I assume you know all about the limitations of the end user :D.

Good luck Discord, I wish you success, but I also wish for you to be fully compatible with all my Steam information and inventory and such.
