“Between the World and Me” struck me like Malcolm X’s autobiography did as a teenager. But it struck me not as “angry”, instead honest. Coates is gifted in his ability to speak and write truth, cutting away all that isn’t. He brought me to re-read Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. It’s frightening and terrible how relevant Baldwin’s words remain today.
