Hurricane Harvey Survivor’s Guilt

As someone who is a “victim” of the storm with friends who are “survivors” I can assure you none of us escaped unscathed from this whopper of a storm. And frankly, I am thankful that the damage to your home and family — and the homes and families of everyone similarly situated — was limited, but it wasn’t zero.

As victims we need survivors to lean on and as survivors you have the burden of carrying some of our emotional baggage for us and in some cases having it unloaded onto you like a crazy baglady emptying her purse on the table. This post hurricane atmosphere is like hour twelve of a long family Thanksgiving; much too tense and everyone just wants to go home. But the key here is that we are with family. We are in this together. That’s what the mayor says, anyway.
