To start, this is for informational purposes only, not investment advice, and I am not an accredited investor, as laid out by the rules of the SEC. However, I do hold a degree in finance and have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to value a startups' potential for success. I invest mostly on Republic, in startups that solve a problem I have experienced or where I find there is a personal connection to the project. Republic allows anyone to invest small amounts of cash into startups they believe have the potential for success. I like the platform because of its simplicity of use, the way companies are screened and the platforms’ due diligence procedure.

My latest investment is in Plei — Play soccer on demand. I like this company for many reasons. I started playing soccer when I was 7 years old — I still play and love the game. I travel a lot and always find it difficult to find pick-up games in the cities I visit. I often wish for a solution to this problem — easily finding pickup games in any city.

Plei allows you to view soccer facilities in a city, connect with other players and start playing in as little as 2 taps. I am now based in Miami and can use the app to find games very easily. Also, the market is huge, not only in the U.S. , but internationally as well, with over 276 million soccer players outside of the U.S. (according to Plei). Again, on a trip to Hong Kong a few years ago, I really wished I could find a pick-up game quickly, but to no avail.

Looking through their material on Republic, it seems they have a solid team and are growing steadily with a lot of room for growth. They currently have 32 facilities on the platform, mostly in South Florida and Houston, and have made over $300k in revenue in 2019. I also like the fact that the product is very “sticky” — when a facility signs up, the platform can be used as an all-in-one management system.

With any investment there are risks, however, no risk means no reward — investing 101! At the early stage of a startups’ life, there are many risks, which I won’t go into here, but I feel that a strong team can navigate, anticipate and overcome risks as they occur and the Plei team seems to possess those qualities.

I am really happy to be supporting Plei with this small investment.

To the love of the game!
