I love the honest and authentic voice you use in this piece. No pie-in-the-sky preaching about the dangers of addiction and the way to salvation. A real discussion of the core issues facing people who struggle with addiction and the kind of hard self-work it takes to begin to wrestle ourselves free. Thanks for putting this out there.
Family friends were supposed to have been our “addiction”. And Jesus.
That is why the Word tells us to leave our parents and cleave to our spouse — it’s a sort of transferring of addictions, if you will.
It’s also why family is usually the trouble behind the other addictions. 😢
