A Nintendo Switch 2 could be coming out on Holiday 2024 launch
The Nintendo rumor mill is jam-packed with supposed leaks on a Nintendo Switch 2 console. Though its predecessor was launched seven years ago, the claims of a more powerful model started shortly afterward. But the latest one claims that a next-gen Switch is set for release in Holiday 2024.
According to a news report by VGC, a source claimed that the new console is being prepped for launch in the latter half of 2024 (possibly during the Holiday season). That and major third-party developers around the world have been supplied with the dev kits.
As for the specs, the system shares a lot in common with its predecessor. It will come with portability out of the box complete with a screen. However, it will be an LCD screen as opposed to OLED; perhaps a way to cut costs. Lastly, the Switch-like device could support cartridge-based medium for its games like before, though nothing shared here is definitive.
This latest report isn’t anything new. For years, Bloomberg had reported several claims by sources that a next-gen Switch model was planned. Some sources insisted that it was another mid-gen model–alongside the Lite and OLED models–which was popularized under the name “Switch Pro” at the time.
There was also a leak straight out of Nvidia, the Switch’s chip manufacturer, that occurred back in March 2022. The leak revealed that the company’s patented API, Deep Learning Super Sampling feature (DLSS) had contained the code “NVN2.” This is significant since the current console’s codename happens to be “NVN,” implying that a DLSS-capable Switch model could be on the way.
Furthermore, the Nvidia leaked details line up with analysts’ predictions made that same year. Ampere analyst Piers Harding-Rolls projected that there will be a next-gen Switch model launching in 2024 due to the Switch family of devices experiencing diminishing demand on the market at the time.
Many sources have come and gone, but this recent one could very well be the most credible among Switch 2 speculations. There are also some key factors to consider like Nintendo’s fiscal performance and the Switch’s aging hardware that is proving to be less competent as time goes by. For now, only time will tell.
