This feels like a pretty short sighted idea — especially because all of those apps maintain the concept of the folder, they just name them differently and put different icons in front of them. Not to mention that all cloud storage options (Drive, Dropbox, Box, etc) still use folder structures for storing and sorting data. Someone also brought up Android which still uses folders/directories to save files (so they can be shared between applications easier).
