Choosing Joy
Life is hard. Joy is possible.

The world is dark. We are dark. Much to be saddened by and much to rejoice in.
I’d say in my honest moments it’s easier to complain than choose joy. Are things really that bad?
I got up today. Breath in my lungs. The sun is shining. I found food on the table. Money in the bank, enough at least.
I have good friends, church family, and an awesome supportive family. Yeah, life sucks.
In my greed I want more. In my discontent I don’t think what I have is enough.
Often ignoring the wisdom of the Bible:
But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. -1 Timothy 6:8
News media and social media channels perpetuate the fear and hate in the world. A constant nagging on my brittle soul for choosing fear instead of joy and love. I believe all is lost.
Yes… there are racists, murderers, thieves, and doochie people. Welcome to life under the sun!
But today I saw another narrative at work in the world. One of generosity, love, compassion, and service demonstrated in tangible ways. In ways that will never make the news or get in a Facebook feed.
So, we can complain, fight, argue, and wish we had more. Or… choose the path of joy.
I’m choosing joy.
