What are the safety rates internationally? Better yet, how much safer are the US defense yards than US commercial? Shipbuilding creates hazards, yes, but how safe is shipbuilding compared to other industries? In the last 40 years safety has improved tremendously in shipyards.

There are times the shipyards aren’t even at fault for the safety incidents. Employees get lazy or just haphazard and get themselves hurt doing things they know are unsafe.
