“Hip” Wall Shelving

Wood + Stain + Plumbing + A butt load of screws

Everywhere I go. Every Kinfolk magazine I read. Every hip home decor tumblr I see. Every flea I am dragged to by friends, I see them. Wood & Plumbing “rustic furniture”. Beautifully stained wood with dark, gritty metal sticking out here or there. A piece of furniture, pawned off to homeowners and apartment renters looking to create a “rustic feel” for their homes.

While exploring at the Brooklyn Flea one day with my girlfriend, I stopped and examined one of these coffee tables. A simple construction of elbows and fittings along with simple pipes, created something I should have built time and time again. So I did.

I ran to Home Depot the next day and headed straight for the plumbing. I created a mock layout for what I wanted and away I went (I brought some wood down from my parent’s house upstate). Installation was fairly easy with just a drill, level, and some patience with the fittings and elbows, and took about an hour.

The end result: $50-80 dollars instead of $200 and a new shelf to house goodies lingering around my apartment (stickers now removed).
