Analytics Cloud Identity

Last week Lauren reached out on behalf of Keith and Stephanie for an identity for the new Analytics Cloud that can be used on internal collateral (like team t-shirts) and external materials (like mobile devices we distribute for demos). Marketing is playing with the concept of branding the Explorer being powered by “Wave” technology (a reference to how the data is visualized in fluid animations. It’s something that delights users, makes the Analytics Cloud distinctive in the BI space, and is unique from other SFDC products/reporting tools).

The design objectives were:

  • Design should have bar charts curve like a wave instead of stacked vertically like they look today on the mobile icon
  • Need to include the SFDC cloud, but do not put anything in the cloud. The wave (bar charts curved) can come off the cloud just not in the cloud
  • There is no established branding yet, and Hawaiian styling is not a priority. Want Analytics Cloud to be distinctive as its own product, so there’s room to depart from existing styles
  • Needs to look clean and precise. This is an analytics product, after all

Attached is what I submitted to the team. Still waiting on final feedback from Keith and Stephanie, but there’s good support for this approach so far. It sounds like they’re going to make a decision pretty quickly because marketing needs to start getting the identity onto decks, so if you’ve got any feedback speak now or forever hold your peace!

Updated Wave logo

  • Increased bar width helps the image feel more wave-like. Composition also feels stronger/more sturdy with heavy bars
  • Spacing between bars is more consistent and balanced
  • Lowering the first bar so it emerges from the bottom of the cloud instead of the side helps eliminate Mohawk associations
