8 Ways to Make Yourself Better in Life and Business

I’m not sure why, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve had this blissful dissatisfaction with where I’m at in life overall.

I say blissful because I’m not an unhappy person…and I’m grateful for the life I’ve created…but nevertheless, I’m never fully satisfied. It’s a nagging feeling that never goes away.

I know this sounds sad…and I realize it can be taken too far…but because I’m conscious of it (and putting myself out there by writing this article), I believe an ongoing quest for self improvement is a good thing.

In my opinion, the opposite of this is a lot worse. If you have no goals…if you’re not working on yourself…and if you’re just flowing with life…I think you could potentially find yourself 20–30 years older with a very large gap of where you are and where you want to be.

And this quest is definitely ongoing. We’re all imperfect. We do some things well and other things need work. And when we finally figure things out in one area of our life, other issues pop up that need to be addressed…or you identify new things you want to get better at…not to mention the randomness of life.

Take the current situation we’re all in. Personally, my diet was pretty solid before the coronavirus. It’s not terrible now, but it’s definitely taken a hit for sure…so now that’s something new I need to work on.

OK, I want to transition this article into giving you 8 ways to make yourself better in life and business. I’m far from having it all figured out, but these are the things that help me.

1. Be Grateful

Every morning when you wake up, list out 3 things you’re grateful for. I use a journal app on my phone, but you can also write it out with pen and paper. Doing this rewires your brain to look for the good things in life and helps you develop a positive mindset.

2. Exercise

This one is obvious, but I had to include it. Get yourself moving; it’s a game changer. Find out what works best for you: walking, running, swimming, weights, boxing, yoga, martial arts, etc. You’ll feel better about yourself and your confidence will increase.

3. Have Goals

How can you make yourself better if you don’t know what that looks like? How can you achieve things, personally or professionally, if you don’t know what you want to achieve? Make sure you write down your goals and look at them daily…and make sure you include pictures/visuals of your goals because it will create a bigger impact.

4. Invest in Yourself

The best investment you can make is investing in yourself. The stronger of a person you are, the more you will help and amplify your family and those around you. Over time, you’ll show up differently everywhere you go…and you’ll contribute to the world with more impact. You should look for ways to continually improve your skills and knowledge across all areas of life.

5. Never Stop Learning

Never stop feeding your brain new knowledge. Don’t become static. I read that Warren Buffett reads 4–5 hours per day. He’s almost 90 years old…worth about 75 billion…and he’s still learning new things every single day. The way I address this is my investing my time and money into masterminds, courses, podcasts and books.

6. Communicate

Communication is the key to everything in life. With your spouse, your kids, your friends, your team members, everyone. To live a better life, personally and professionally, clear communication keeps things flowing and prevents small road bumps from becoming craters. And don’t shy away from difficult conversations — I know this is hard…and it takes practice…but it’s important.

7. Help People

Helping people and giving back is a crucial piece of living a better and more fulfilled life. First off, it’s the right thing to do, but it’s also super rewarding. If everyone on this planet focused on helping just a few people, the ripple effect would be massive. How do you help other people? Give time or money to charity…join a mastermind and pour into the other members…and look for opportunities where you can help another person and genuinely provide value.

8. Make Yourself Uncomfortable

Make yourself uncomfortable because this is where the growth occurs. When you face something challenging or uncomfortable, and get through it, it changes you. Your confidence and belief goes up…your mindset gets stronger. It’s similar to going to a gym…if your goal is to get stronger, you lift weights and your body responds to the stress by strengthening your muscles. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is the equivalent to “lifting weights” for your mind.

Thanks for Reading!

I know this is a lot to take in, but I hope you found this article helpful — remember, it’s the journey that counts, not the destination. The best thing to do next is grab a pen and paper…put your phone away…and sit in silence for 1–2 hours thinking about the points above. Let yourself relax and jot down the ideas and thoughts that come to mind.

Enjoy — and go make your life great!
