Stephens’ Remarkable Path

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Elizabeth Stephens made history as the U.S. Naval Academy’s first black female Naval Aviator. Her Marine Corps career included groundbreaking achievements as the first black woman to pilot the CH-46E and the first woman to fly the MV-22 Osprey. These experiences honed Stephens’ determination and ability to navigate new challenges — qualities that would shape her cybersecurity success.

After the military, Elizabeth joined Sempra U.S. Gas & Power before moving to Microsoft. Here, the vital role of cybersecurity in protecting critical infrastructure became clear, and Stephens made a pivotal career shift. Starting as an entry-level professional, her determination and aptitude led to leadership roles in major cybersecurity projects.
