Identity politics is extremely simple.
Classic liberalism is all about the rights of the individual.
Identity politics is about group identity.
I’m not a man, I’m black.
I’m not a man, I’m a gay black disabled… (three memberships)
The idea is to use the power of a group instead of relying on the power of an idea.
Identity politics conjures up notions of “group rights”… which is antithetical to individual rights.
