The problem, Larry, are *activists*. They are everywhere. It may not be Medium as much as it is the activists that they hired…
Activists automagically detect and work with other activists.
Your job as an activist writer is to advance progressive ideas. When countered by a more conservative or libertarian voice, the job of the activist reader is to flag those voices. The job of the activist Medium employee is to see these flags (from the same people as last week, and the week before, and the week before that)… maybe scan the “offending” post to be sure they don’t approve of the tone or content… then to simply make the flagged person “disappear”.
Goodbye Svetlana.
It’s a massive informal network of activists… all recognizing each other, all aiding each other.
Management doesn’t even have to know what’s going on.
But then again, most young tech companies are going to be run by activists too… so when they see such shenanigans in their organizations, they will tend to look the other way.
One by one, entire organizations and even industries are taken over by activists.
Activists are *the* problem. No other problem is larger. MOST other problems stem directly from activists.
These are unthinking informal mobs… they hear that the latest “target” is drinking straws, and they all immediately sign on to the latest conflict the progressive leaders dream up, even though they had never heard of it until yesterday.
Now plastic straws are the biggest issue the country faces!
Until the next fad… I mean target.
