Founded in 1992, Ryegate Associates is a pioneering force in the local energy landscape, overseeing the operations of a cutting-edge 20 MW wood-fired electrical power (biomass) generation facility in East Ryegate. Our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability is vividly illustrated by incorporating a state-of-the-art Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions control system, effectively mitigating emissions from our plant.
The SCR device is a testament to engineering excellence, featuring a stack bypass that skillfully channels combustion gases through an array of 477 ceramic plates, each measuring 2 feet by 2 feet. Within these plates resides a titanium catalyst akin to the catalytic converters found in automobiles. The results are remarkable, with NOx emissions drastically reduced from approximately 1.5 lbs/mmBTU to a mere 0.75 lbs/mmBTU, marking an impressive 50% reduction.
As a baseload electrical generation plant, our facility maintains an impressive track record, consistently operating at or near total capacity. This steadfast commitment ensures a dependable and uninterrupted power supply to our valued customers, with the sole exceptions being brief periods of scheduled maintenance, during which we meticulously optimize the plant's performance.

We are a dedicated team of 21 individuals, many proud residents. Our team includes a regulatory forester who plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with Vermont Harvesting Regulations, demonstrating our steadfast commitment to responsible forestry practices.
In our relentless pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, we proudly produce and deliver an impressive 250,000 tons of whole tree chips annually, bolstering the renewable energy sector. Moreover, we distribute over 4,000 tons of wood ash each year, finding valuable applications in various recycling programs, including its use as organic fertilizer for farmers. This dual-purpose initiative minimizes waste and lends critical support to the agricultural community.
Our dedication to renewable energy is further underscored by our qualification for Renewable Energy Certificates in the New Hampshire and Connecticut renewable energy trading markets.
