Addiction is Not a Disease but It’s Not a Choice Either

Thank you very much for this, I might not have known of it otherwise. As part of my chaplain work I teach meditation to willing folks (not all wish to participate) in our hospital’s detox unit. In so many ways society is not serving well the people who struggle with addictions. Eliminating our reliance on myths and moral judgments are good first steps. I’m a big fan of Dr. Gaber Matte who wrote “In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts”. He writes from both his own experience with addictive behaviors and from the work he does in Vancouver BC.
