Getting an everyday job especially for young teenagers and students can seem to be a very intimidating and daunting task. This is even more true for individuals without much experience or knowledge in the process of applying for and getting a job. After talking to some young adults on their job application process and what it was like, here is what stood out. It all comes to MoreWithUs — a creative jobs website for young people. You can visit them at www.MoreWithUs.com.

  1. Reach out to family, friends, acquaintances for job openings/positions or internship opportunities! Many individuals find out about a job opening or opportunity through relationships that they may have with others. Both Christine, a student at New York University Stern school of business, and Yoong Hwang, a student at the University of Maryland studying psychology frequently found job and internship opportunities with the help of family and friends. Take advantage of the relationships that you do have and form new ones to meet employers! Make opportunities and more relationships to set yourself up for success in the future.

2. But don’t fret if you feel like you might not have quite all the necessary relationships to find a job or internship. This is where job searching websites can come in to expose you to the many job opportunities that are out there. However, for a first time user, job searching websites like Indeed, Monster, and Snagajob can be a little overwhelming at first due to the wide plethora of jobs listed. How are you supposed to know which jobs would be the right fit for you? How do you know if the jobs would be a good match to the experience and expertise that you may want from the job/internship? This is something that Yoona found difficult when applying to so many different jobs. It’s often difficult to find the right job. Furthermore, the application process is a time consuming process in which you may have to submit a cover letter, complete questions/assessments, and turn in resumes for each job position. What if I told you that there was another option that may make the job application process easier? This is not to say that job search websites like Indeed, Monster, and Snagajob are not good places to find jobs — but having more options is always good.

3. Try MoreWithUs — a job search website in which all you have to do is create a simple profile with minimal information (and if you want to upload a custom resume) and employers will contact you for a job. It is all free for jobseekers. This website is a great place for high school students and college students who may not have the most experience or expertise in an area but does want a part time job. Yoona Hwang, Christine Lee, and Daniel Kim (a student at the University of Maryland studying Information Science) all believe that this kind of website is something that could definitely bring many opportunities while making the whole job application process less intimidating, time consuming, and stressful. It’s great for individuals who may not have the experience or guidance that others may have when it comes to searching for jobs. MoreWithUs takes the stress and work out of the job applicants’ hands to the employers. It’s a great introductory tool for individuals to use when first applying for jobs and internships. Check them out at www.MoreWithUs.com.
