The headline for today is ‘Govt panel mulls repayment over 20 years for AGR dues’. So what does this mean? For all those readers who have read the newspapers in the diwali vacations might know that the telecom sector recently lost against the government in the Supreme Court for some dispute and they had to repay a lot of money for the same, and additionally, there are a lot of extra licensing cost and in total, the telecom sector was in a loss of a total of 1.3 lakh crores. Looking at this situation, the government panel proposed that the telecom sector can repay the amount in smaller installments on a spam of 20 complete years which means that a huge burden from the companies is relieved. The government would also consider a reduction in taxes.
On the side news, the government flags risks to payment through social media with the recent hacking frauds from the Facebook-owned WhatsApp. WhatsApp has also signed a lawsuit against the Israeli company, NSO, which is convicted for this fraud.
