Kevin, I LOVE this post and thank you for all the content and EDUCATION you are putting out in the world! This is a great article and very well researched article. As a holistic nutritionist AND someone who works in the pharmaceutical industry, I agree with you 10000%.
I understand the reality we live in as someone who lives and works on both sides of the “health” debate. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who are looking for quick fixes or simply want medication to treat the symptoms of their dis-ease despite recommendations to change their diet and lifestyle. These people are not willing to do the work and so for them, I am happy the pharmaceutical industry exists. In spite of their choices, I do believe they should be able to live the highest quality lives possible and if that includes taking medication for chronic disease — so be it.
HOWEVER, for those people who are trying to take an active role in transforming their lives and improving their health outcomes, it is very disheartening to see “data” published by the AHA like this and see how the media has run with it and spread the fear. I hope that articles like this get into more and more hands so that we can properly educate and EMPOWER those who are willing to advocate for themselves and are willing to accept the information.
Thank you for this. I am truly grateful.
PS: I’m wondering if you have ever considered doing an article like this around Isagenix or other meal replacement “systems”. I have so many clients and friends that ask me about it and it makes my blood boil when I hear all the health claims these “coaches” are making about how these products perform “cellular cleansing” and “detoxing”. I would love to point them your way, so if you have any thoughts about this that you’d be willing to share — either in print, video or podcast form — I would be glad to share it. Many thanks!
