Beginners Guide: How to create a Keplr wallet

For you to begin your journey in the Cosmos Ecosystem, you need to first have a wallet to manage all your accounts and tokens.

Cosmos has several well-known wallets, but we will pick one wallet that can easily connect to almost all Cosmos projects in this guide.

Introducing Keplr, the Interchain wallet. Keplr is a non-custodial blockchain wallet for webpages that allow users to interact with blockchain applications. Some of the features that you can get with this app:

Prerequisites

In this guide, we will use Keplr extension for Chrome. There are other options too, like Firefox, IOS, and Android. What you’ll need to prepare:

• Google Chrome
• Install Keplr Extension for Chrome

Create an Account

• Click on the installed Keplr extension icon

• Click “Create new account”

Note: If you intend to create an account for long-term use and to treat it as your main account, for security reasons we would recommend you to choose “Create new account” rather than “Sign in with Google” since it doesn’t provide you with a seed phrase (it’s good for creating testing or sub-accounts).

• Next, you will find your Mnemonic Seed. Choose 12 or 24 words (we recommend 24 words, again for security reasons). Write it in order, as we will need it for the next step.

Note: Please keep your seed phrase safe and do not lose it! NEVER give your seed phrase to anyone! Only you will be given the key, and whoever holds the key will have permanent access to your wallet.

• Insert a name for the account — click “Next”.

• Enter the Mnemonic Seed by clicking on the words. Choose the words sequentially based on the previous information. Then click “Register”.

• It’s done! You are a Cøsmonaut now.

Checking Keplr Account

• Click again on the Keplr extension icon, and you will get a popup of your account status.
• You can start depositing tokens ($ATOM) from Centralized Exchange to your Keplr Wallet
• If you would like to stake your tokens, select your network's preference and click stake. Kindly follow this guide here for a staking tutorial ($ATOM token)
