Just curious why you use the term jumbo jet in the headline? Why not huge jet or giant jet. Jumbo Jets are a generic term used for Boeing 747 jets.

As a regular watcher of National Geographic’s Air accident Investigation, I am very familiar with this story and you have left out the part about how the pilot used his training as a glider pilot to use a techniques particular to gliders to land the plane a ‘forward slip’.
