POLICE CLAN

This is a Fictitious inside story of fictitious Intelligence agency “SIA(Secret Intelligence Agency)” of a fictitious city Menarta. SIA was a Superior Police Department. The SIA Chief controlled the Menarta Police thoroughly. In 80s end Menarta gradually infested by all types of crime. Mafia controlled the city influenced and affected all departs of society even Law Enforcement Agency.

SIA Chief Caetan Granieri, his deputy Laz Marvel and an Officer Ricci Mondel sat in Chief’s office watching on TV Caetan’s recorded press conference on killed 6 Mafiosi(members of mafia), these Mafiosi were remnants of Stefan Bonta’s and Salvastor Inzillo’s clan. Both Stefan Bonta and Salvastor Inzillo were killed by Rino Donarsi in Mafia War recent past. Impacable smile on Caetan’s face.

In Mafia war, Corlina clan( clan is a family, tribe, group of people, usually used for Mafia group) under Rino Donarsi’s command wiped out all other mafia factions from Mentarna city, Corlina clan Influenced many politicians and administration who were afraid to take any action against them and also Rino Donarsi paid them certain handsome amount called “Protection Money” on regular basis.

Clans feud ended but rest of crimes became more organized under Corlina clan which effectively ruled the Mentarna after mafia war.

SIA was also influenced and affected by Mafia. Press conference ended and Caetan once laughed loudly. SIA was in action against individual or small criminal group, remnants of banished clans and anonymous people for whom not necessary had criminal record but not took any action against powerful and at that time Corlina was a powerful clan.

“Tonight we are going to meet Rino.” Caetan informed Laz and Ricci pleasantly with a smile. Paused and continued again “He invited us to a party” Both Laz and Ricci nodded their heads ‘OK’, they knew Rino invited them to pay ‘Protection Money’.

Laz and Ricci sailed out from Caetan’s office and were walking on corridor towards parking area. Laz was Ricci’s senior but they were friends too. “Don’t you feel that this is unfair Caetan always keeps large portion of money and threw before us what leftover” Suddenly Laz asked Ricci in virulent tone. Ricci stopped unintentionally, turned to Laz and looked in his eyes who had already stopped glanced at him. Ricci said nothing though he knew that what Laz was talking about as to ‘Protection Money. There was nobody else in car parking. Laz pulled a cigarette pack out of his pocket, opened it, moved towards Ricci who picked one, placed between lips and Laz lit cigarettes up both’s and puffed on his cigarette and said “He must give us a reasonable amount of total money.” He stopped and at last Ricci asked “Will you asked him?” Laz puffed again and nodded his head ‘No’. Ricci was a cunning officer more cautious with what, how and when speak. He refrained from any reply.

At night Laz picked Ricci and Caetan up from their residences and took them to Rino’s place.

Rino gave them warm welcome and well entertained till end of party. Party ended, Rino gave Caetan protection money and said “Valmant Johnnie has been re establishing a group in Farnibo town, banish them before establish. I will give you my men in operation against Valmant clan” He paused, Caetan glanced at him, Rino continued with smile “This operation against mafiosi will boost your reputation within administration and society circles.” Caetan laughed loudly and nodded his head up and down, as he stopped laughing and his moving head he said “I see in this matter and thank you for…….” He waved money.

At last after couple of hours, these three returned, Caetan gave Laz and Ricci certain amount of money during returning home. Laz stopped car at Caetan’s residence, Caetan got out of car and closed car door behind him. Laz moved car forward. Laz’s words about Caetan still in Ricci’s mind. His curiosity awoke. “You were right Laz. Caetan is an unfair person” Ricci said in a flat tone and scanned Laz’s face. He saw serene expression on Laz’s face and then started conversation about Caetan till Laz dropped Ricci off at his home and Laz moved towards his home. His mind completely occupied by a desire of Chief Caetan replaced by himself after conversation with Ricci.

Next morning, Chief Caetan, Laz and Ricci gathered in Caetan’s office and discussed Farnibo town. Caetan looked at Laz and asked him “What would you say Laz?” Laz replied “We should take action immediately. But first we need information about Valmant clan and Farnibo town’s inside location.” After half an hour meeting over, Laz and Ricci left Chief’s office and moved towards Laz’s office.

Laz sat on his seat and Ricci placed himself before Laz at next side of table. Laz meditated. After a few moments when Laz not came out of his thoughts Ricci asked him “Is everything alright?” Laz startled and looked at Ricci and said “No….Nothing… Yes everything is alright.” But he relapsed again into condition as before replied to Ricci. Ricci said nothing but after not long he asked again “Laz you are my senior but I am your friend too, you can share your problem with me…..” Laz interjected by laughed at loud once, he had controlled himself while Ricci asking about his anger, he said with a smile “No my friend, everything is alright” He didn’t want to share his desire to anyone. After a paused and got controlled over thoughts, Laz tried to divert Ricci’s concentration from himself by asked Ricci’s opinion about expected action against Farnibo’s Mafiosi. Ricci shrugged his shoulders and said that he is going to make arrangements for acquiring information about Farnibo town and this group. He stood up and Laz nodded his head OK.

Ricci returned office at evening and first he met Laz, share with him collected information and then both moved to Chief Caetan’s office where Ricci repeated information again. He said after sharing his information “In a week I will get as much information that would be sufficient for a successful action against Farnibo’s mafiosi” Caetan replied in flat voice “OK”. Laz asked Caetan “I am going home if you not need me.” Caetan replied “you can go, me too will go home now” Laz said ‘thanks’ and left chief’s office along with Ricci. Outside the chief’s office Laz asked Ricci but Ricci replied “I have some work, I will stay for next couple of hours” Laz said Goodbye him and moved towards parking area.

Laz reached home, had dinner with his wife Sophia and a 16 years old son Ander and a 12 years old daughter ‘Merry’. After dinner he moved to his room. Sophia entered room while a book laid on Laz’s lap, his sight fixed at front wall. Facial expressions were weird. She called him and asked “Honey, Are you OK?” Laz startled “Yes….Yes…. I am fine” he controlled himself and smiled. Her face assumed serene expression and subdued smile played on her lips and moved in bed beside him. Laz kissed her, turned off table lamp and laid for sleep but not successful. Mind was dense with thoughts. Eventually his mind became tired and he fell asleep.

Ricci after a week was telling information to Caetan and Laz about Valmant clan and Farnibo town. Ricci’s briefing ended and they were busy to making plan of action.

Next day they met Rino to finalize the plan.

Caetan briefed action plan to Rino with the help of Farnibo town’s map “I will command this action by myself. Me and Ricci will enter through ‘Mentarna road’ along with half of the total personnel and Laz you….” He called Laz and continued “You will enter through Strado road along with rest of personnel and Rino’s people through Petro road. We all will spread inside the town and seize the all streets.” He paused, looking their faces as if searching questions and after a while he said “don’t show mercy to who will trying to escape, shoot him.” Rino said enthusiastically “Yes, eliminate them.”

Before leaving Rino’s place they finalized everything.

During returning home Ricci felt Laz was distressed as if he want to say something to Ricci but hadn’t courage.

At Sunday 4:00 AM Police’s two convoys which consisted of 32 cars and buses, One convoy leading by Caetan with Ricci and other by Laz, personnel brought from different police stations of Mentarna and they were unaware to the final destination but knew that going for a combat. Another convoy was under Brusca’s command. Brusca was Rino’s most faithful man. All convoys were heading towards their decided destination.

Ricci was with Caetan in his car. Ricci was driving the car. They reached at confluence of Mentarna road and Linaudi road almost 50 meter away from Farnibo town. Ricci was looking towards town constantly. Suddenly he stopped the car. Caetan glanced at him but said nothing. Ricci said “It is strange that street lights are off. Not even once it happened during my investigation” Caetan who pensively was looking Ricci’s face asked “what we should do now. Maybe it was coincidence” Ricci not replied. Silence in car even round them outside the car. Everyone’s quiet. Suddenly radio came alive. They received a message that heavy gun fires on southern side of Farnibo town. In a few seconds they realized that Brusca gets in trouble. They felt danger. Ricci turned car back hastily and Caetan started shouting “Pull back…Pull back…” and put his hand out of car window and indicating. He was shouting continuously. At that time torrential firing started from town.

It became apparent that Mafiosi were already informed and well prepared they inflicted heavy casualties on police personnel in very first attempt. Personnel panically responded firing to the town during was trying to reach away from shooting range.

Laz’s convoy was moving on Strado road while first he received message about southern part of town and another message received that Caetan’s convoy under attacked at confluence of Mentarna road and Linaudi road. Laz put car on Delonti road to reach to Caetan. He could hear shooting noise clearly, in 3 minutes he reached there, shooting continued, his convoy joined Caetan.

Rino’s convoy under Brusca’s commamd when entered inside the town heavy firing started and they immediately loss several lives. Brusca lost his life too. They panicked and responded with random firing. Not long after eventually Rino’s gang retreated in disarray.

Police Helicopters also reached there and flying over affected area then shooting strength decreased gradually. At last shooting stopped after almost two hours and they were able to enter the Farnibo’s residential area. 6 police personnel lost their lives and several injured. Caetan became insane. He behaved brutally to residents during searching Mafiosi. They arrested dozens of imputed persons and then convoy returned to Headquarter.

Ambulances rushed expired and injured to Hospitals.

Caetan fell into a rage, beating his fists on table and yelling “They were already aware of our raid. Someone informed them. I will kill him” He repeated it several times. He was in his office with Laz and Ricci, stood at his side of table, little bent before, was staring at Laz and Ricci who seated before Caetan at other side of table silently. At that time, door knocked, He shouted “Yes”. A staff person entered and informed him “Reporters are waiting in the anteroom” Caetan nodded his head up and down and staff person sailed out from office. Caetan looked at Laz and Ricci and asked “Now how I explained 10 dead bodies of Rino’s mafiosi” Laz glanced at him but Ricci after a few moments replied “We can manage it. We can tell press that we had information that different factions had been gather at Farnibo so we arranged an operation and these Mafiosi killed in counter firing.” First time after operation, Caetan’s face adopted serene expression and he went with them to press conference.

At midnight, Rino was watching Chief’s recorded press conference on TV with clinching his fists and teeth insanely. He lost his 10 men including Brusca. A servant came into and informed him about Caetan’s arrival. Rino indicated by his head ‘send him’. Servant went out and very next moment Caetan entered with Laz and Ricci. Rino was looking at Caetan who glanced at Rino, realized situation and said hastily “Rino someone informed them about our raid. They were ready. We have also lost our six personnel.” He was frightened and trying to make Rino believe that this was not his fault. “Who is perfidious among us?…You?…..Me?….He….or He?” Rino asked insanely with pointed his finger at Caetan, himself, Laz and Ricci respectively. Caetan said nothing but he kept his head down. Rino glaring Caetan “Eliminate them else I will do it by myself.” Outside the Rino’s residence Laz said listlessly “Chief We are in danger. Rino’s tone wasn’t good. We must be careful now.” Expression of anger mingled with fear appeared on Caetan’s face.

Next day he called a press conference at headquarter, Laz and Ricci accompanied him. He told a forged story. He also told media that himself, Laz and Ricci were receiving death threats from different factions.

“I know who informed them about our raid.” Ricci said, Laz stunned. Both stood in anteroom and smoking after 5 days of Farnibo raid. Ricci continued with subtle smile without waiting Laz’s replied “But I will not tell anyone despite you didn’t share with me your plan and pushed me in danger with Caetan.” He paused and continued again “Beneta who took you to Valmant is in my custody” Ricci enquired Laz’s face. It was inanimate. At last after a few moments of silence Laz replied confusingly “I wanted to tell you but….” But he was unable to complete his explanation. Ricci grabbed his right shoulder softly, smiling amiably and said “Forget everything, what’s done is done. Laz you are my best friend and I would prefer you to Caetan.” Laz was looking Ricci’s face who continued in flat tone “He spends too much time as Chief. He should retire now but Laz….” He paused, laughed at once and continued “…promise me all income which you will make as Chief share with me equally.” Laz’s condition was unchanged still inanimate. Ricci tapped his shoulder “Laz just relax we will talk about it later. You come to me tonight“ At last Laz nodded his head “OK, I will be there between 21:00 to 22:00” Ricci smiled and said “OK” and they moved towards their offices.

At Night, by the time Laz reached Ricci’s residence. They sat in drawing room. Exchanged of a few casual words and after refreshment Ricci came to motive of this meeting that replace Caetan with Laz. At last after two hours they found a way and Laz enthusiastically hugged Ricci before leaving “I am really sorry. You are very kind friend. Thank you I will never disappoint you again.” Ricci smiled.

One week later Chief Caetan was busy on phone while Laz and Ricci entered his office. They seated themselves before him. Chief put down phone and started discussing failed Farnibo raid. Laz pretended a frightened man. Chief advised him that he should use security for his movement. Laz agreed with chief and asked “When you will go home? I will go with you.” Caetan said “OK, I will go in evening and I will call you 10 minutes before go home.” Laazaro became thankful.

Laz and Ricci left Chief’s office and out of Laz’s office Ricci said “Laz informed me when he will call you” Laz replied “Definitely” and Ricci moved towards his office.

At evening, Caetan called Laz that he is ready to go home. Laz said he come to him in ten minutes and Laz informed Ricci that they were going home.

Ricci stood up and moved towards car parking. In just five minutes Ricci returned and entered main hall where staff was busy in their activities. He went to an officer Claudi and asked about Farnibo town’s current position.

Laz called Ricci while he was busy with Claudi. He looked at Laz who stood at main hall’s door with Caetan. Laz told him they were going home. Ricci in replied just thumbs up and again busy with Claudi.

Caetan and Laz went in security to home. A security car was leading this convoy, second car was Caetan’s, next again a security car then Laz’s car and in last another security car. Convoy was heading towards Caetan’s residence. Reached almost two miles away from Headquarter suddenly an explosion occurred in convoy and Caetan’s car caught fire. Rest of cars in convoy stopped randomly.

Laz saw this and as he excitedly said “Yes” and he heard another explosion. That was the last noise he heard before died.

Ricci was still in main hall busy. Suddenly he heard heavy explosion. All staff sailed out from main hall to corridor maniacally and saw to and fro, a staff person indicating to car parking they pulled out their weapons and moved towards parking area. Bomb was exploded in Ricci’s car. Lots of cars damaged. Two personnel were extinguishing fire by fire extinguishers.

At this time radio operator came to Ricci and told him that Caetan’s and Laz’s car exploded and they lost their lives. Ricci moved to his office, reported to Interior Ministry office on phone. He whispered to himself “If you are corrupt don’t trust anyone, Maybe he more than you” Next in an hour reporters also gathered at Headquarter. Ricci after Interior Ministry’s permission just issued confirmation chief Caetan’s and deputy chief Laz’s death.

Interior Ministry ordered to SIA to investigate this incident. Investigation in charge was Acting Chief of SIA Mentarna ‘Ricci’.

Investigation without letup continued for a whole month. Ricci announced Valmant clan was responsible of Caetan’s and Laz’s murder. Ricci carried out several raids against Valmant clan in Mentarna city and killed and arrested dozens of clan’s member. At last once he killed 4 Mafiosi and claimed that they were involved in Caetan’s and Laz’s murder. Investigation closed,

Ricci became new Chief SIA Mentarna. He held a press conference at Headquarter and emotionally announced that his seniors’s sacrifice will never go waste he will clear Mentarna city of criminals.

Rino was watching this recorded conference. When conference ended he tapped man’s shoulder sat beside him. He was Ricci. He glanced at Rino who was smiling victoriously.
