EPL is Finally Here!
Summer might mean travel, fun and entertainment for a lot of people, but for me it means that there is no football for about 3 months! World-cup in Brazil and all those thrilling games that i watched filled the gap for a little while, but Premier League and Champions league are something else. It’s been about 3 months since Man city won the league. It wasn’t as dramatic as the one before that, but it surely was more difficult for them. As a Liverpool fan, i was very disappointed with the league, but the fantastic and eye catching football that we played throughout the league, meant a lot to me. New season will all of its enjoyment starts from tomorrow and i am counting hours until Sunday to watch the first Liverpool game at Anfield, a place where football is not just a game, it’s a story about people who are devoted to their team. I try to explain my anticipation of the top five teams that I believe would have a chance to become the next champions.
I start with my favourites, Liverpool. Merseyside reds were not very successful in the transfer window so far. They sold the best number nine striker in the world Luiz Suarez and have not managed to buy a quality player that could fill his shoes. They bought Lambert, Lalana and Markovic to strengthen their offensive side. As people truly mentioned in Twitter, It’s like selling your iphone and buying calculator, phone and mp3 player separately. It might does the job, but it’s not the same. On the other hand, they had very good signing on defence where Lavron and Moreno were signed and I think this season, LFC would concede far less goals than last season. Overall, optimistically we might have chance for winning the league, but without a world class striker I would not count Liverpool as a serious title challenger, but definitely in the top four.
Chelsea could be the winner of the transfer window. They made very smart signings and also sold David Luiz for the ridiculous amount of £50 mil, which I think was absolutely overrated for an above average CB. They brought back Courtera from Madrid to insure their goalie for years, they had a very good defence last year so they did not buy man player in this area, apart from Felipe Luiz who I think is in the top three left backs. Fabregas could bring creativity to the midfield and also he is a type of player who could be a good replacement for Lampard. Finally, Costa who does not need any explanation and would certainly is a great asset for Mourinho. The only downside to this Chelsea team is the lack of another decent striker when Costa is not fit or injured. Personally, I think Chelsea is the team that would win the EPL at the end of this season, if nothing unpredicted happens.
Arsene Wenger is the only man who could purchase quality player with low-cost amounts. He made two great signings this summer with very reasonable prices. Sanchez and Debuchy will definitely play a major role in Arsenal this season. I always liked the style and the pace that Arsenal have had under Wenger’s management, however to win the league you need to have a complete package of various players with different skills. A player that could rule in the centre midfield for Arsenal is missing and that could be very costly in big games or in matches where game gets very physical. There is still some time left for transfers and if they could bring someone like Khedira, then they would have a great chance for winning the league.
Whether I like it or not, I could never cross off Manchester Utd from the teams that could challenge for the title, especially this year with Van Gaal. He is one the greatest tactician managers in the world and he is the only one that could make Ashley Young score a goal against Real Madrid. There are rumours that Utd are very close to signing Di Maria, with him they would make a terrific attacking side. Players like Van persie, Di Maria, Herrera and Rooney could bring you countless goals. On the other hand, defensively I think they would struggle without Vidic and Ferdinand. One big advantage for Utd this season is they won’t play in the Champions League, therefore they have more time to rest and less players get injured. Van Gaal could always surprise you, so predicting where they could be at the end of this season is very though!
Finally, Man City, the champions of last season. They did not bring in many players, that’s because mainly they already had numerous top players. Lampard will be with them until December and he could really aid them with his experience. Unlike previous season, something tells me that they might not be on top of their game this season. Lack of motivation and not a very good Aguero could hurt City. My prediction is they would finish between third and fifth this season.
In conclusion, my top six standing for this season is something like this, however I hope I see Liverpool at top at the end.
1-Chelsea
2-Arsenal
3-Liverpool
4-Manchester Utd
5-Manchester City
6-Tottenham
