Learning how to learn

The capacity to learn is a gift. The ability to learn is a skill. The willingness to learn is choice. Many people stop learning at certain age because they feel learning is only happened at certain age and it is not worthy. We should no stop learning because life dont stop teaching. Learning is not a easy task as it takes time but practice makes the permanence.

I am a quick learner due to my curious nature. But, sometimes there are some challenges which become hurdle in my learning or completing the tasks on time . The main challenges I faced in life are Preparing my mind to learn, planning, stress, tension and tackling procrastination. According to psychology , there are three ways to learn .

  1. Attention
  2. Focus
  3. Retention

Being attentive and focused helps us to learn in more structured way. Focus and concentration comes with practice and exercise. Retention or recalling comes with attention and focus. My first challenge is related to my attention . I take much time in preparing my brain to be ready to learn new things and fixing my eyes and brain on certain task. To overcome this challenge, I have learned to do eye exercises for better eye alignment. Other problem is my stress , there are two types of stress, good stress gives us motivation and energy and bad stress waste our energy . To release my stress, I have learned to do stress relief and breathing exercises. The final challenge I faced is how to tackle the procrastination. This is quite natural because when we feel stress, we shift our attention to more pleasant activity . Procrastination gives us temporary pleasure and becomes our addiction .One most thing I learned is that good learning is a bit by bit activity by grasping the concepts in structured way rather than just cramming the things. To avoid this , Pomodoro technique is the best way to avoid distractions and increasing our attention spans. The takeaways , I will applied in my practical life is that attention is the key to learning . I will try to always be attentive while learning and using breathing exercises to make me stress free.
