The Pakistani flag that waves in India.

We’ve all heard a lot about how a few ghettos in our nation proudly wave the Pakistani flag. And the logical conclusion being drawn is that these very 'Indians' pledge their allegiance to Pakistan.

Here’s a WhatsApp message I received earlier this morning, on our Independence day.

And here’s the video,

For those who don’t know who Burhan Wani was — he was a Kashmiri militant who was against the (infamous) militarisation of the Kashmir region. He was killed last month in an encounter.

This is what I replied.

Wow! This gave me goosebumps! Proud of Indian soldiers guarding our borders :)
But that is not a Pakistani flag. It is an Islamic flag. The resemblance is striking because both bear the Star and Crescent. The difference is that the Pakistani flag has a white patch on the left 🇵🇰(that’s how they lack creatively). The Star and Crescent can be seen in many other flags representing Islamic Republic nations, Turkey and Malaysia, for example. A little help from WhatsApp; a couple of other nations who have Star and Crescent in their flags 🇩🇿🇦🇿🇰🇲🇨🇨🇱🇾🇲🇾🇲🇷🇸🇬🇹🇳🇹🇷🇹🇲

While I strongly feel even Islamic flag shouldn’t wave up there (there’s no valid reason to put it up there, at all), calling it a Pakistani flag shows poorly on the Kashmiris. There have been many many instances where this green Star and Crescent flag has been mistaken for a Pakistani flag. Anywhere else this mistake would’ve been nothing but a mistake, but in this case it changes opinions of people around the world. While I say this, I also feel any Kashmiri who thinks Pakistan is an ally, couldn’t be further from the truth. Pakistani government is a snake!
I just thought I should write this much about the matter because we should be wary of anything that might stir up communal tension.
Peace! And a very happy independence day!! Jai hind! 🇮🇳 :)

I usually refrain from replying to such incendiary posts or messages. But I broke the code this time because this is a very common way of polarising the public (especially around the elections). People need to know that it isn’t a Pakistani flag waving there.

We, Indians, need to be wiser, together, and only then will we be stronger.

A kind request — please don’t spread any message without a credible source. Don’t spread hate. Save India. Save me. Save yourself — of the venom.

Also — happy 70th, India! ☺
