AAG Ventures Purchases $350K Worth of Habitats in Genopets, the World’s First Move-to-Earn Game
AAG Ventures has partnered with Genopets, a free-to-play game built on the Solana blockchain that incorporates play-to-earn mechanics through physical activity. Genopets has coined the term “move-to-earn” to describe this unique feature that the game hinges on — in which real-world movement and exercise translates into rewards.
It is the first game of its kind to work in this way, and AAG is excited to be a part of the Genopets journey and help it spread throughout the world.
What is Genopets?
Genopets is an activity-based RPG game that turns your real-life environment into a game realm. Your Genopet is your digital spirit animal and follows you everywhere you go. The game combines the nurturing and evolution mechanics of Tamagotchi with the training and battling of Pokémon.
All you need to start playing Genopets is a smartphone. You can then summon your free Genopet NFT and connect it with your step data to start playing. Using information from your phone’s in-built sensors (such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and compasses), along with external wearables like smartwatches, Genopets gameplay converts players’ real-life movement into experience points (XP) used to progress through the game. That means that, whether you’re walking your dog, dancing at home, or just going about your everyday life, so long as there is movement, you’ll be rewarded in-game with XP.
You can also plug into the Genoverse in order to participate in daily step challenges which level up Genopets to increase their battle performance and customize their appearance. In addition, there is a Battle Arena in which players can challenge one another in competitive, strategic mini-games to earn XP and claim their spot on competitive leaderboards.
Finally, Genopets features a marketplace that functions as a hub where players can trade their Genopets and other NFTs.
Genopets NFTs
Genopets are NFTs which evolve, and can be upgraded and customized with eight different types of features that are classified by one of five elemental types. Players can swap their pets’ body parts to augment their type and stats for battle performance, as well as altering their appearance for personal preference. By leveling up Genopets, increasing their rarity, along with completing PvE (player vs. environment) quests, players unlock unique body modification options for their pet.
Since your Genopet reflects your daily activity and personal preferences, it becomes a one-of-a-kind digital representation of yourself.
Refined Crystals are NFTs crafted using $GENE and $KI to direct the evolution of a Genopet. Refined Crystals come in many forms and each plays a unique part in affecting your pet’s evolution. For example, using a Fire Gene Crystal during evolution to change your Genopet’s elemental Genotype to Fire grants it a blazing appearance and Fire attack moves.
Genotype Crystals can also be alchemized with other Genotype Crystals to produce Advanced Crystals, Power-Ups, Augments, Items, and Accessories.
Habitats are where Genopets live and evolve. These are procedurally-generated NFTs that players can craft using $GENE, $KI, and Gene Crystals. Habitats also boost players’ XP, unlock the ability to craft Refined Crystals directly, and earn gamers daily $KI. Different types of Habitats have different effects on Genopet skills and Gene Crystal crafting costs. Each Habitat can only support one Genopet at a time and must be maintained periodically with crystals or it will fall into disrepair and stop earning $KI. Habitats are tiered 1–3 and the number of unrefined crystals each Habitat generates, Refined Crystal production, and the amount of KI a player can earn each day differs according to level.
A higher-level habitat can generate more daily KI. Habitats boost XP, unlocking the ability to craft Gene Crystals directly, and earn daily KI.
Earning in Genopets
The Genopets economy is built on a two token system.
$GENE is fungible governance and staking token representing ownership in the Genoverse. $GENE token holders vote on the future of gameplay and stake $GENE tokens to earn rewards.
$KI token is a fungible in-game reward token that players earn by playing the game while owning a habitat. $KI is used to evolve your Genopet, alchemize crystals, generate new Habitats, and battle other players.
