Republic Realm and AAG Ventures Team Up to Build The First-Ever Learn-To-Earn (L2E) Blockchain-Based Game
November 16, 2021 — In 2021, the world witnessed the meteoric rise in popularity of Play-To-Earn gaming (commonly referred to as “P2E”). The key feature enabling this growth was the addition of a token-based component to the Axie Infinity game, which allowed any player with access to a smart phone or computer the ability to earn cryptocurrency while playing. Axie Infinity is the seminal project for P2E. Between January and October 2021, the number of active daily users on Axie Infinity increased by 38 times, from 50 thousand to 1.9 million¹, and those players earned a total of $2.1 billion², mostly in developing countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil and Argentina.
This phenomenon got us thinking.
Play-To-Earn has been revolutionary, showing us that the combination of gaming and blockchain could engage the masses as well as distribute significant amounts of wealth where it is most needed. At the same time, Play-To-Earn induces people to spend their energy on learning how to play games, which will be limited in its real world empowerment.
So, our thought was this: what if you could harness the engagement potential of blockchain gaming, but also encourage people to learn skills that go beyond playing games and make them more employable?
Our answer is Learn-To-Earn (L2E), which combines the best elements of crypto, gaming and education and allow people to earn crypto while learning broadly applicable skills such as math, programming, business fundamentals or even how to build the future metaverse! These real world skills can be learned while they are playing a new, blockchained-enabled version of an educational game (e.g., Prodigy) or a gamified educational platform (e.g., DataCamp).
