I didn’t study Rhetoric, so this insight is invaluable. I just want to make it clear that it is not my personal opinion that these words are ruining the English language. I also don’t think we’re really disagreeing on anything. I am referring to the McLuhan reading about how people, raised during the height of an older medium, don’t exactly understand new media because they are viewing it through their outdated lens. One of these things that they might not understand (or find illogical) is the introduction of these new words. While I counted myself as someone who is used to new media, I realized that I am used to layout or design rules regarding print. This point was touched on in the Remediation reading. A lot of aspects of digital media is based on analog media. One of those aspects is how people design online media, which is still based in print and paint.
