Uniqueness
No one wants to hear about me. At least thats my thought and probably more people think this way than I imagine. Growing older has taught me one lesson I never expected however, you and your stories are unique and they are a culmination of how you got to here in life.
I remember the smell mostly. A pungent smell in the air as the moist air of summer seems to hold the odors to the ground. If gravity could be forcing this smell into my nose I would claim that this is when I met gravity for the first time on its terms. I did not particularly like the odor and it seems like it hurt my nose to the point I attempted to hold my breath as I went about my morning. I later learned that this odor reoccur many times in my life and had some sort of connection to pine trees, humidity levels and the season of spring. I can not tell you all the details of how and why, honestly I don't care, but I go back to that day and my paper delivery job of my youth every spring when I get a whiff of this odor again. I can see that day in my head as I take myself back there.
Stories, and stories will work the same way as this odor. While you may or may not enjoy the sensations that come along with remembering things like smell, and linking them to other activities, it is what you do in your mind. Now when you share them others can also benefit from them. They may not have been there but if you take them there they will see in their mind what your story makes them see, feel or experience. It used to be that stories grew a society and the structure that came with it. Today storytelling is needed as a viable part of the personal growth people want. Help people to grow by sharing your stories people, it is a great thing.
