Back in Jan 2017, we started Scribe with a vision to build AI + Automation tools for powering operations of a growing number of Inside Sales teams around the world. We started by automating top-of-funnel sales ops up-to and including scheduling a demo call for reps, through a AI + human-in-the-loop (think m-turk) solution that would manage your sales inboxes, instantly analyze cold email replies, hand off to the sales rep where necessary and finally schedule calls with leads that qualify. It was a booming business and took off way faster than we anticipated (~400K ARR in a span of 5 months), but that also created its own set of operational issues and very soon we realized the massive scalability problem inherent to the model.
That forced us to build Scribe 2.0 which would remove the human-in-the-loop from our end and directly expose the AI layer to our end clients. We would fetch the emails, classify and predict the next best actions and send the notification to client. Client could then verify if the AI predictions were correct and choose the next best action to take from the suggestions. The suggestions allowed client to update their CRMs, manage calendars and send preset personalized replies, all with a single click. We chose Slack as the push notification consumption platform and built the data pipelines to connect with different email providers, CRM providers, calendars, spreadsheets, ticketing solutions, and several others.
Scribe 2.0 would go on to become the first bidirectional multi-platform workflow service which would allow its users to get data from any of their integrations, route it to the relevant team member and configure their own set of actions for each of the notifications. We found our product being used to implement use cases we hadn’t conceived of ourselves, including updating helpdesk tickets, providing smooth employee onboarding and offboarding workflows, managing permissions for different integrations, triggering ML, data and deployment pipelines and so on.
Today, I am really glad to announce the next chapter in the journey of Scribe and its team members. The Scribe team is joining Rippling. Rippling is on its way to revolutionize the way companies onboard, off-board employees and manage their HR and IT, and we are excited to be a part of this journey.
Joining Rippling was an obvious choice for a number of reasons including the extremely strong leadership of Parker and Prasanna, the strength of its engineering team, and the company’s ability to push a lot of very high quality products real fast. As part of the same YC cohort, we were completely bought into the vision behind Rippling and we knew that they would stop at nothing short of making Rippling the next big unicorn. Automation has been the DNA of Scribe and now we are excited to take this many steps ahead with the talented team at Rippling.
We wouldn’t be where we are without the customers, investors, and our family and friends who believed in us. We want to especially thank the incredible team at Y Combinator who’ve been there for us through thick and thin.
We are stopping support for new user sign-ups to Scribe henceforth. Workflows currently in use by existing customers will continue to work.
Thanks for being a part of the journey
