Vacay 2017
It’s day 7 of the 8- day cruise I was fortunate enough to take with my Father this year. Might I say vacation was long over due in my case and I needed it bad. Months of hopping from job to job trying to find the right fit. Lord and behold I found a great one two months in advance that granted me vacation time even though it’s during busy season, payed me well enough to enjoy my week off and gave me a promotion that will be waiting for me when I get back (Hawt Dawg!)
But as I was saying, this cruise to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Grand Turk was total excitement. Traveling to the Caribbean for the first time I was ready for my glimpse of paradise! Unfortunately though, the first couple of nights I was struck with a severe case of motion sickness, turned into me being bed ridden at least until we got to our first stop in Puerto Rico. But of course let it be the first time I cruise for mother nature to catch a temper tantrum, rain storms delayed our ship and made us miss docking at P.R all together. In St. Thomas it rained for the first few hours but we got to enjoy it’s beautiful beach at least until it was time to go and Grand Turk was a short stay but was fun while it lasted.
Of course on the cruise there was much entertainment. Magic shows, trivia games, themed parties galore, some that caught my attention and some that seemed a little bit cheesy. While the group that I went with was super fun and up for any and everything fun had to offer them, I found my introverted self watching movies up on the deck, walking around gift shopping, observing the group of 8 year olds making friends and having the time of their lives down by the pool and eating breakfast near the big glass windows every morning.

I told myself before I got on the ship "Enjoy YOURSELF Sade" No matter how sick I was or how much it rained too hard for me to enjoy the outdoors or how short our stay was on the beaches, and let’s not forget how much I tremendously miss my boyfriend, nothing beats the experience I have in merely enjoying my own company. I thanked the beautiful purple and pink rays in the skies of Grand Turk for granting me the opportunity to enjoy it’s beauty. I took pictures and told momma I made it here for the both of us.
Although I could’ve easily waited until I got back to New York to write this, I am overwhelmingly baffled by the sense of serenity I feel at this very moment. And writing during my new found enlightenment seems so much better.
Lastly, as I look out towards the horizon stretching over nothing but crtystal blue waters I thought to myself, what idiot saw what I see right now and ever thought the world was flat? because if you stare long enough, every corner of the ocean seems to slightly curve. It taught me a very simple but valuable lesson. There’s no straight lines out here, no edge, no end...but theres always a never ending horizon, always a destination.
