The Jatiya Shaheed Memorial is the national monument of Bangladesh, built to honor and remember those who died during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence. Flames are lit here in their memory on Bangladesh Independence Day on 26th March every year.
The monument is located in Savar, about 35 km northwest of the capital Dhaka. The memorial complex also houses a museum, a library and an auditorium. The museum tells the story of Bangladesh’s liberation war, while the library has a collection of books and documents related to the war.
The auditorium is used for cultural events and conferences. National Martyrs Memorial is a popular tourist destination. It is a memorial to the martyrs of the independence war of Bangladesh and a symbol of the country’s independence.
