It’s Easy Being Average

I say it’s easy being average because it stems from a word that most people can relate to: Comfort. People, including myself get too comfortable too easily and when one becomes comfortable with where they are, they stop growing. They stop learning. They stop driving for better things and that in turn stops one from exceeding being their “limit” and being different.

If I give examples from some people: Will Smith, Beyoncé, Feliks Zemdegs, Bobby Fisher and many more not mentioned that succeeded and achieved greatness. They all put in 10s of thousands of hours on developing their craft. And all those hours are the hours that no one else would like to do in trade for their constant enjoyment of watching TV or going to the spa or other “irrelevant” things that don’t benefit towards achieving their dream.

People become confortable watching, playing, sleeping more than that do working on their craft. If it because of fear? Family? Friends? Whatever the reason is, the internet provides an incredible amount of opportunity that just wasn’t possible for the average being just a couple years ago.

I stopped being compatible with where I was and I wanted to strive for better things, which is why instead of spending my time doing irrelevant things that were a waste of time I could have spent honing my craft, I actually put in the hours and the sleepless nights to improve with what I wanted to get better at. Period. When you do like me come so much simpler because you’re in one makes you happy and not what makes your mum, best friend, brother, teacher or others in general happy. Do what you love and spend the hours to get better and prove the people who doubt you wrong.

Actions speak louder than words, so instead of ‘dreaming’ or ‘hoping’ for that big break, promotion, gig or whatever it is you want to achieve, work for it. And enjoy working towards achieving it. The micro can and will be hard, but in the macro, you’d be glad you did it.
