The world today is not the same as it was 10 years back. We do not just mean that politically or economically, but also climatically. With the world climate under the threat of the daunting giant, global warming, everyone needs to be more cautious. Climate change is one of the most common reasons for illnesses and diseases. Therefore, in order to protect yourself the best advice we can give you is to purchase a health insurance.

This is a highly underestimated investment, but it is vital. Health insurance plans are now more comprehensive, offering a hefty coverage to the insured person. However, one common misconception most people have while purchasing a health insurance is that they only look at the inclusions of the plan. This is a mistake. While the inclusions are an important aspect, even the best health insurance in India will have certain limitations or exclusions. Not going through the exclusions of a policy might land you in trouble in your time of need. Some of the common exclusions you should watch out for are:

Pre-exiting diseases

If the insured person is already suffering with some disease, it will fall under the pre-existing diseases clause. Diseases such as cataract, kidney stones, arthritis, few chronic diseases are most likely to be excluded from the insurance plan. Some plans however, provide a waiting period of 48 months after which the disease can be covered.

Waiting clause

Most policies do not provide immediate coverage, unless in case of accidents or death. If you are suffering from any disease, you will have to wait out a period of -2 months to enjoy the benefits of the insurance coverage.

Pregnancy

Costs such as childbirth, pregnancy, vaccination, or any such expense is not covered in a health insurance plan. Some plans provide a waiting period for pregnancy benefits. However, Ectopic Pregnancy, which is proven by diagnostic means, will be covered in your plan since it has implications, which can be life threatening.

Surgeries

Surgeries such as joint replacement, cosmetic surgery, dental surgery, reproductive surgeries are not included in your health insurance plans.

Apart from these common exclusions, be sure to scrutinize your policy well before purchasing it. Only after you have scrutinized the inclusions and exclusions and made sure they match your needs you can go ahead and get insured.
