Vienna is one of the arts and cultural capitals of Europe. One of the most famous museums of the city of Vienna, which also hosts many museums, is the Albertina Museum. In the Albertina Museum, which contains more than 65 thousand drawings, there are also over one million prints using techniques such as lithography, woodcut, and engraving. The Albertina Museum also houses one of the world’s most important and largest collections of graphic works.
The museum is in Albertinaplatz Square. This work, which dates back to the seventeenth century, was built at that time under the name Taroucca Palace. In the following period, the palace changed hands and began to be called the Albertina Palace. Today, this work serves as a museum. Albertina Museum, which has undergone various changes throughout history, bears traces of classical Austrian architecture.
The Albertina museum consists of three parts. It is known that there are nearly 50,000 drawings and more than one million prints in the museum, where unique works of art have been preserved until today. The priceless works of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt and many more are exhibited in this museum. The section where these works are exhibited constitutes the first section of the museum.
In the second part, there is the architectural collection. In this section, there are 15,000 projects and nearly 10,000 pages of additional drawings. 16–18. The section, which contains around 2,000 Italian architectural drawings from the period between the centuries, reflects the traditional and radical processes of 20th century Austrian architecture with all its subtleties.
In the photography section, which is the third section of the museum, there are pictorial works with early color photographs as well as studio photographs. The area that attracts the most attention in this section is the field of scientific photography.
- Visiting Information: The museum is open every weekday from 10:00 to 18:00. On Wednesdays, this time interval is extended as 10:00–21:00. The entrance ticket to the museum is 14 Euros for adults.
