Japanese: 『甲州三坂水面』 — Kōshū Misaka suimen
Mount Fuji reflects in Lake Kawaguchi, seen from the Misaka Pass in Kai Province

I never noticed a woodblock print with a reflection — until this one. I have a set of postcards from The Met, and I have long been an admirer of Asian art galleries and specialty museums… (My favorite in New York is the Rubin Museum, but I’ve yet to visit two institutions on Staten Island. Maybe I’ll change my mind?)

This print strikes me as more modern. In fact, it reminds me of a photo I might see on Instagram. Yet I wonder how unusual this is. Are reflections in the water a common theme among ukiyo-e?

There’s only way way to find out! I would need to see more images.

The quest begins :)
