Mormon Country: Zion NP, Labor Day 2018

The Money Shot. The Narrows hiking trail is the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. It is the only strenuous hike with a low gain in elevation. Most of the park’s more challenging hikes are steep and not for the acrophobic.
Me & the Backyard Boys (folks next door helping with our backyard renovations, we’re lucky to have neighborly neighbors). As you can see from my khakis, much of the water is knee-height.

It was an oddly religious experience. If you’ve never crossed a river on foot, you’ll have to try for yourself! You may get a sense of Exodus or other spiritual quest. We only hiked a small section of the trail, maybe 2–3 miles in the Virgin River. That’s right, in not of.

Still, it was so worth it! My highlight was clinging to the cold, smooth canyon walls and looking all the way up to the sky… I believe some rock formations in the lower canyon are over 2,000 feet.

At this point, I feel like I’ve explored much of the Colorado Plateau (spanning Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico). I’ve only scratched the surface of you, America ;)

And yet I love you thiiis much!
