Raleigh Electric Bikes

The History of Raleigh
Raleigh have been producing bikes since 1888 when they were founded in England. They are now part of the Accell group a Dutch Corporation that also owns Lapierre, Winora, Haibike and Sparta. During the early 1900’s Raleigh also produced motorbikes and other powered vehicles and eventually spun this part of their business out in 1921 to form the Reliant Group, responsible later for cars such as the Robin Reliant.

Raleigh have always been known for the quality of manufacture of their bikes and in recent years Raleigh have started to produced electric bikes to the same high quality their have produced pedal bikes from many years.

Raleigh Electric Bikes
There are three main Raleigh electric bikes, the Forge, the Captus and the Motus and they ascend in price along these lines. The Forge is the only one of the range not to use the widely respected Bosch eBike system and as a result is also the cheapest in the range, compared to many other bikes of a similar price it is manufactured to a high standard but the fact it doesn’t use the Bosch active line system lets it down. The Raleigh Captus on the other hand is the cheapest bike available on the Bosch eBike system. It does not have the components of the more expensive Motus but is a good entry level option for most eBikers. The Raleigh Motus is the most expensive eBike in the Raleigh range but is also the most high spec it has Magura brakes and a high end gear system that puts it head and shoulders above the other bikes in the range. The look and feel is very similar to the Captus but it comes in a really nice matte black finish.

Overall the Raleigh Electric Bike range has some excellent options for those who want a comfortable long distance trekking bike for riding around the town or country. Fully Charged provide test rides of the Raleigh Motus from their Bermondsey street store that allow you to experience what the range is like to ride but let me assure you that it is an absolute dream. One of the other benefits of the Raleigh eBikes is the range they all have, the Motus has a range od up to 80 miles on a single charge, mainly down to the BochPowerpack 400 that it has hidden under its back rack.

There are other alternative on the market such as the Easy Go Race by BH eMotion and the A2B Octave by A2B but the Raleigh Motus and Captus really o provideunparralelled levels of comfort and reliability on the road and with a 2 year warranty from Fully Charged, the Raleigh electric bike range is a very exciting option for longer range electric bike commuters and other e-cyclists in general.

What’s in store for the future?

We hope to see more from Raleigh in the future, their range at the moment is only comprised of three bikes and we hope that as the market expands they will spend more time crafting electric bikes for a wider audience.
