My friends and I recently tried the $65, twelve-course omakase experience at Shiki Omakase NYC in SoHo, New York. Shiki is an incredible omakase room run by chef duo Lin and Jackie.

I have been wanting to share my experience and some tips for sushi-lovers before trying this dining experience.

Omakase roughly translates to I leave it up to you. This is a dining experience in which one sits facing a chef who guides them through a series of premium sushi courses.

In NYC omakase can range from as cheap as $65 to as high as $600, but there are plenty of options that can average around $100. This is definitely not your typical all you can eat experience, but one I would recommend trying for a special night out with friends.

As a reminder, I am no sushi snob. I realized there were several sushi etiquettes that many may not know. This article is written for beginner sushi-lovers who are interested in the omakase experience.

1) Make a reservation and show up on time

This truly is a group experience that you are going to be sharing with others and there…
