What did you do this past week?

I woke up Monday morning pretty sick so I didn’t do much work and slept earlier than usual. For the rest of the week, I was able to get a lot better to study. I finished the homework and lab for data management and the problem set for algorithms & complexity. Now with that out of the way, I was able to focus on my chemistry and algorithms exams. I also started on Darwin with my partner and we were able to implement all 3 classes so far.

What’s in your way?

Being sick this week was definitely in my way. I had to take it easy when I was planning to start working out again first thing Monday. The weather is finally going to get cold again so I have to make sure to stay cozy until I’m fully healthy again.

What will you do next week?

The main things are to take both of my exams and finish up Darwin next week. I wouldn’t have many assignments to do besides data management so I can try to work out this weekend if I’m all better.

What was your experience of the vector implementation?

It’s nice to see an elaborate implementation of a vector since it’s a common data structure to use. Knowing how the class is constructed the way it is can help us make programs with good performance. It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to learn object-oriented programming. A couple of things I liked was how we can call the copy assignment in the copy constructor as long as the logic checks out. Also, I thought it was pretty clever to use the swap method when we are copying over and to check for the addresses for equality instead of the values to avoid an O(N) operation.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I’m pretty excited about the next generation of consoles in 2020. The PS5 and Xbox Scarlett are going to take things on the next level for console gamers. Although both will have impressive innovations such as ray tracing, and powerful hardware, I’m leaning towards the PS5 because it will have virtual reality. I hardly game anymore, so it’s going to be awesome to play the next generation when I graduate.
