Sakina Salem is an up-and-coming UI Designer at Code for Africa (CFA), Africa’s largest civic technology and data journalism initiative. Using Figma, she designs high-quality user interfaces for digital tools.

As part of the knowledge team since 2019, Sakina designed pages for long-form articles and created award-winning data visualisations to supplement them. She solved many challenges during this time by acquiring a range of skills in tools such as Adobe After Effects CC for motion graphics and Google Earth for satellite imagery.

Over the years, Sakina developed a strong understanding of data visualisations and how to use the platform Flourish to create them. She has passed on her knowledge by training over 100 journalists on how to visually present their data so that it creates impact and inspires change. She has consolidated her expertise into an online course provided by BBC Media Action and another by academy.AFRICA.
