New to Cybersecurity?

Do entry-level jobs have certification requirements for eligibility?

Many of you contacted me for a post on where to start with the certifications, so here we go. First, let’s establish that none of the Certifications are easy. But they are not difficult either if you know how to prepare well. Cybersecurity Certification exams are usually tricky with multiple possible answers, but you must prepare to choose the best answer. Scroll down for some FREE and good resources to study from at the end.

ISC2 has an entry-level certification and a great one to introduce you to the basics of this field. Best part? It is FREE for the first attempt!

This certification tests your knowledge on 5 domains:

Here are my few tips on how you can pass this certification with ease:

  1. Plan a Strategy & know what to study: The material on the official site is quite easier than the exam questions. So, you need additional content to pass this exam. But first, get acquainted with what the exam is about and what it will be testing you on.

Exam Outline can be found here.
  2. Do not rely on ISC2’s pre-assessment & post-assessment: The actual certification exam is trickier than the assessments on the official site. It would be best to take more practice tests before you book your exam.
  3. Take Handwritten notes: I cannot stress enough on why this is so important. It will help in better retention and a deeper understanding of the concepts. You can even review them later to add more points once you start with practice tests.
  4. Give yourself 10 days to only practice questions: The more you practice, the more you’ll improve. Ten days focus on solving as many questions as possible, analyze all the mistakes, and then retake tests after a few days to see if you repeat mistakes. Go over your notes again if you do.
  5. In the Exam, you cannot return to a previous question; you get enough time to answer, but there is only one option, “Next.” So, be sure when you answer a question.
